“In 2011 Elena Kats-Chernin was present at the rehearsal and concert where we performed some of Kats-Chernin’s works. She approached us afterwards with a project she had been wanting to do – to record her complete works for string quartet in a double CD – and she felt we were the right group to pull it off.“ – Anna Martin-Scrase Acacia website blog

Acacia QuartetIn the 7 years since that break-through, the Acacia Quartet has quickly won great respect for their versatile and inventive programs which often couple established repertoire with the unorthodox.

The Acacia Quartet (violinists Lisa Stewart and Myee Clohessy, violist Stefan Duwe and cellist Anna Martin-Scrase) is well known to the Bellingen Fine Music Festival audience, as they have been part of the last four Festivals. This year they will again perform in the ‘Youth and Exuberance’ concert on Friday night.

On Saturday they will form a quintet with renowned guitarist Karin Schaupp.
Acacia will start the concert with Antonin Dvorák’s famous String Quartet No. 12, Op. 96, ‘American’ followed by Phillip Houghton’s In Amber for guitar and string quartet. Karin Schaupp will finish the concert with a selection of solo guitar pieces in the second half.

The Acacia quartet will also conduct two Festival workshops: one for primary school students and a special one with the string section of the Bellingen Youth Orchestra. Whether you play yourself or not, this is a rare opportunity for students and adults to observe how string players prepare for performance. It certainly will enhance your concert experience.

“They play with integrity; connect with their audience and present dynamic programs always from their heart.” – Elena Kats-Chernin Acacia’s Artistic Patron.
